ecocivitas is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, created by a multidisciplinary team with extensive international experience, dedicated to boosting sustainability by applying innovative ideas and methods to establish effective connections between citizens and the principles of sustainable development.
Over 20 years have passed since the concept of sustainable development was introduced by the Brundtland Commission report, which defined it as one “that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
Since then, sustainability issues have become increasingly relevant and a large number of treaties, policies and programmes have emerged to promote sustainability at all levels and in all contexts. Nevertheless, the success of these initiatives has unfortunately been very limited.
This scenario tends to worsen because ignorance and/or apathy prevails in most citizens, while willingness to change may seem overwhelming or futile for those interested in fostering a situation of sustainability.
This indicates that there is no effective coupling between the many initiatives to promote sustainability and the collective will required to adopt a model of society compatible with the principles of sustainable development.
As long as this linkage is not created and strengthened, it will not be possible to reach a situation of genuine sustainability and the serious problems that this implies will continue to intensify, causing increasingly serious damage to human societies and the environment.
The mission of ecocivitas is to educate, inspire, organize and mobilize citizens of all ages to create and consolidate an effective adherence between initiatives to promote sustainability and the collective will.
We have the vision of an equitable society that develops in perfect harmony with the environment and we aspire to be internationally recognized as a cardinal figure in the formation of a large group of citizens organized to promote this model of society.
